After 7 years of anniversary posts on all of the various blogs I’ve started and eventually neglected, I think everyone has heard the story of our wedding and seen our amazing pictures from Paul and Michelle Johnson (still the best pics I’ve ever seen) and learned every reason why a wedding planner working for one of the top wedding planning companies in Colorado opted to eloped to the beach instead of slimming down for her favorite Vera Wang to orchestrate an incredible mountain bash with live bluegrass, festival lights, signature cocktails and a succulent pig roasting on a spit with a shiny red apple in its mouth… I might be vegetarian but I still believe Southern hospitality is a must if the goal is to host a monumental celebration. So I’m sparing you the lovey dovey talk and simply posting a few links along with a photo collection that still says it all.

Still having a blast! Thanks for asking sweetie!

Still having a blast, sweetie, thanks so much for asking!

Easter Saturday Traditions

Mom has all the holiday photos from when we were little so I'm afraid I can't offer any proof that we really did wear white gloves with Easter tights. But I think this photo fits the story well. I'm sure you can imagine the craziness on Easter Eve with all these little girls. Missie is in the shorts, Fawn is in the blue jumper, Spring is in the stripes, Taffy is in red and I'm in mom's arms... because I'm the favorite.

As I was putting on my yard clothes to go outside and mow the lawn (for Easter mind you) I caught myself having the same conversation in my head that we use to have with our parents every Easter Saturday.

Us – “Why do we have to do the yard??? It’s our holiday too, ya know! We aren’t supposed to work!”

Mom or Dad (or both) – “Because the yard has to look nice for Easter.”

Us – “Buuut!!!”

Them – “Go!!”

Us – “It’s not fair!!!  GAW!!!”

Them – “How ’bout we don’t celebrate Easter this year?”

Us -(silence)

This got me thinking about the entire day and all the little things we would do to prepare for Easter Sunday.  Basically, Easter Saturday went a little something like this:

Elf On The Shelf Down!

Elf On The Shelf Down!!!

“She came f*ckin’ UNGLUED!!!” were apparently his exact words. Meet my husband’s best friend, Jason, and his daughter, Jessie. Together they make one of the funniest pairings on the planet.

Christmas, Family Traditions, Sisters

Max proves that good always conquers bad!

While decorating the tree I pulled up the original “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” and found myself laughing at a million holiday memories this precious little cartoon triggered.  Mom was always so great about allowing the television specials (Charlie Brown, The Grinch, Rudolf, Frosty) to be a big production in our house. She’d hurry us through our bath and dinner routine… in the good way, not the usual “If you don’t get your scrawny butt out of that tub you’re gonna regret what happens next!” way… Continue reading →

Family Traditions, Kids, Things I will NEVER do

Apparently The Elf On The Shelf drives. Photo from lilbblueboo.com

I’m expecting this entry to land me on every mommy-blog’s naughty list for being sacrilegious about the holy grail of Santa proof, but I seriously think the whole frozen-elf-that-makes-cutesy-messes thing is some sort of bizarre (most likely antidepressant induced) mommy competition that uses the precious naivety of children to win recognition and ultimately become Queen Mommy of the mommy circles.  I’m the first to admit that I know nothing about the joys of motherhood but I do know a hell of a lot of insane women and there is no doubt in my mind that encouraging this Elf game is 100% certifiable…
