Crazy Stories, Good Chuckle, That's so Boulder, Today In Boulder

Pedestrian Caution Sign in Portugal

I took this photo in Portugal thinking, "why in the world would this sign be necessary"... and now I know! My Portuguese is horrible but I'm pretty sure the words at the bottom of the yellow sign have something to do with alcohol and pedestrians not mixing. I will be sending this to City Council.

For the longest time I’ve been sharing “Today In Boulder” stories with friends and family who don’t have the pleasure of living in The People’s Republic and abiding by its crazy ideals.  I always quote the Daily Camera (the most questionable journalism on the face of the planet) to prove that I’m not making this stuff up…and to make sure mom realizes the grammatical errors are not mine.

“Police: Drunken driver tried to hit pedestrian” – The Daily Camera

“Boulder Police arrested a man they say tried to hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk while in front of an officer after the pedestrian ‘made a face’ at the driver Thursday morning”

“Eric Ryan O’Connor, 30 was arrested on suspicion of attempted vehicular assault, DUI and failure to obey a traffic signal, according to the police report”

“According to the report, an officer was stopped at red light at the corner of Walnut and 11th streets at around 1 a.m. with O’Connor’s vehicle in front of him. According to the officer, a man walking in the crosswalk made “a face” at O’Connor. While the man was still in the crosswalk, O’Connor’s vehicle made a sudden turn toward him and accelerated in what the officer deemed a manner ‘attempting to hit the pedestrian’. The pedestrian was able to leap out of the way.”

Note from Spice- this is quoted directly from the camera, I did not omit the “a” in front of “red light” and I did not construct the “at around 1 a.m.” double preposition… nor did I build a sentence containing 4 prepositions.

A few more headlines from today:

“Polish National charged in fishing rod thefts pleads guilty”

“Buddhists reach out in green effort”   *this article is printed in the paper but I can’t find the link to the online edition… typical.

“Drunken driver with STAYCLN license plate receives suspended sentence, probation”

Sigh… and that’s where I live.

Happy Saturday!

Chris and Spice Jones in the sahra desert

Chris and I in the Sahara, 2011. I tried to find a picture of me with a kid to show how much I like them but I don't have any. But still, do I honestly look like a woman with no income and no kids? Wait, don't answer that!

I realize the title of this post suggests that I’m either pregnant or I’ve gotten a job… sorry mom.

So the blog has been talking to me and I’m feeling that “NINK” isn’t really representative of who I am so I’ve decided to finally purchase the domain for “Spice Jones” and switch everything over to a name that truly says “me” (har har har). Hey, finally something positive about not having followers! Just in case you’re wondering, my name really is Spice Jones… Sunday Spice Jones to be exact.

How To Be A Motion Picture Director

"How To Be A Motion Picture Director" an interview with Marshall Neilan in the July, 1925 Issue of Photo Play, photo via Spectacular Attractions

Imagine trying to wrangle the person Marshall Neilan is describing and you have 18+ years of my life.  I’m not going to lie, this is seriously a fun person to be around but at the same time trying to get the work done pretty much BLOWS!

Jane Seymour, A Passion For Justice

Jane Seymour + the word "Passion"? Who in their right mind could resist watching???

During yesterday’s hike on Sanitas I enjoyed a long chuckle thinking about the first movie I ever worked on…because getting lost in thought is the only way I can make myself keep running. It was called “A Passion for Justice, The Hazel Brannon Story” starring Jane Seymour and directed by her husband James Keach (the one wearing S&M in Police Academy 4).  I was 19, about to start my Junior year as a Journalism Major at UGA, and chomping at the bit to get on a movie set…even if it required hand washing Jane Seymour’s bras every night at 2 am.

TV Guide Cover featuring Falcon Crest

Lorenzo! Lorenzo! Lorenzo! Even fuzzy, you stir my soul. Sigh.....

Despite its reputation as merely being “Dallas with grapes”, Falcon Crest soon found its own niche amongst the prime-time dramas of the 1980s, occupying the middle ground between the two extremes of the genre — being more glamorous than Dallas yet not quite as outrageous as Dynasty. The distinctive location filming in the Napa Valley and the dry, wryly humorous tone of the scripts gave the series a personality of its own. And to this day, the series is still sought after in reruns and on DVD by thousands of fans.

The rivalry among Angela, Chase and Richard stayed at the core of the show for years, as more romantic entanglements spun around them. Lance and Cole found themselves not only caught up in their family battles, but also competing for Melissa’s affections. – The Jane Wyman Fan Club

A friend just posted on Facebook that she’d love to find the entire series of Falcon Crest and start a weekly viewing party, sparking a fantastic memory from my own childhood that I had to share.
