The Diva of all Divas, Whitney Houston Dies At The Age Of 48

Whitney HoustonFor those of us who grew up blasting cassettes of Whitney’s love pop while stalking high school crushes in the old family station wagon, this is a very sad day.

As the original counselor of Girl Power, Whitney inspired us to love ourselves… and to wear white tank-tops with acid-wash jeans in an effort to attract the attention of crushes.  She was an amazing singer but what I most appreciate about Whitney is the fact that she looked hot using dance moves white girls could perfect. The “Jump and Clap” and “The Stop.. Now Walk The Other Way” were game changers that gave those of us without rhythm a little something to show off at the high school dances.

In honor of the Diva of all Divas, a living room dance party just for you!

Rest in peace, Whitney Houston… you were truly the greatest!!!

And that, my friends, is how it’s done!

Girl eating cookiesAfter mindlessly grazing through Monday, Tuesday AND Wednesday I decided to pull up the old resolutions to re-energize my 2012 commitment to health and fitness and to once again remind myself that women without work or kids should probably have slammin’ bodies. Oh how the delight meter soared (insert snark) when this little empowerment exercise reminded me of the four Colorado triathlons I’ve sworn to complete by the end of this summer…

Three thoughts came to mind:

1. Who forgets a resolution like that?

2. What was I thinking, and why the number four?

3. Where’s all the spunk and energy I had when writing these resolutions? “Under the 18″ of snow you were bragging about on Monday” says the bag of chips sitting in my lap. “Thanks for the reminder bag of chips” says Spice… as you can see, the snow really does a number on my enthusiasm for exercise.

Jane Seymour, A Passion For Justice

Jane Seymour + the word "Passion"? Who in their right mind could resist watching???

During yesterday’s hike on Sanitas I enjoyed a long chuckle thinking about the first movie I ever worked on…because getting lost in thought is the only way I can make myself keep running. It was called “A Passion for Justice, The Hazel Brannon Story” starring Jane Seymour and directed by her husband James Keach (the one wearing S&M in Police Academy 4).  I was 19, about to start my Junior year as a Journalism Major at UGA, and chomping at the bit to get on a movie set…even if it required hand washing Jane Seymour’s bras every night at 2 am.

Snowman at Hall Ranch, Boulder Co

I always appreciate when others leave smile-worthy art for all to enjoy

Last Friday Boulder set a record for the most snow to ever fall during the month of February. More than eighteen inches came down in less than 24 hours, turning Boulder into one of the most magical snowy wonderlands I’ve ever seen. I know the storm was a pain for many commuters but because I never have to be anywhere at any particular time (a lifestyle element I’ve worked hard to keep) I was able to enjoy the weather with a warm fire, a grilled cheese sammie, and my handsome husband…far from the commuting population.

Brass Acorn LocketHow cute is this necklace from bellabeadstudio? And how special would I feel each time Chris wrote a little note telling me how much he loves it when I leave the house without washing my face or brushing my hair…or taking off my pjs? Very special!
