Corral Lizzard Western BootsAt first I wasn’t going to post this but after wearing them 80 + hours over the last 5 days I feel like everyone in B-town has seen them and I have this insane need (vanity) to keep showing them off!

I don’t know how he did it, especially considering I’ve tried on every style, make and model of boot from Atlanta to Oregon via Texas, New Mexico and California in the past 5 years and have not been able to find a single pair that didn’t have some sort of “meh” about them…price stopped being an issue about 3 years ago when I started sacrificing my jeans budget for a healthier boot budget… but somehow he found the perfect fit, cut, length, color, style, distress, shape, heel, comfort, sexy yet casual, ornamental yet functional, no floral inlay, no crystals, no crosses, hand stitched, lizard (inside and out), Hecho En Mexico with an extra je ne sais quoi that magically makes my lips curl into a sly grin, amazing boots and I love him for it!

All compliments, oohhs and aahhs can be left in the comments section at the bottom of this post… or emailed, FB’d to friends, tweeted and shouted from the rooftops near enough for me to hear.

Thought that just entered my mind – does his motive for gifting me fashion boots have something to do with my 5 year old garden / special occasion jeans? Are these actually just a hint for me to finally purchase something that doesn’t involve pockets over my kidneys? Hmmmm.

The Baby Urge

I admit that I get the Baby Urge maybe three (sometimes four) times a year but I never feel a need to explore the idea or raise the question with Chris because as soon as it sets in I start to remember all the reasons why I don’t have children and a “what the hell are you thinking?!” screams into my head, replacing the emotional urge for a child with a very real craving for something sweet, and VOILA! my thoughts are back to normal.

Well it happened yesterday so I thought blogging the experience would be a great way to share how my clock ticks… mom, this is especially for you:

Every Christmas my mother would dress us up and take us to ride The Pink Pig

A favorite Christmas tradition was riding the Pink Pig at Rich's Downtown Atlanta

First a special memory is triggered (like riding the Pink Pig) and before I can stop the thought, something like “How wonderful would it be to dress my little girls in Christmas outfits and take them to ride the Pink Pig the way my sisters and I did more then 30 years ago!” slips into my head. Then I sigh and think, “And after I tell my girls all about riding the original Pink Pig when I was a little girl, we’ll pose for the official Santa photo and then we’ll go to brunch with their aunts so they can show off their manners and share their precious little Christmas wishes with the family elders” (even when I daydream I razz my sisters about getting old).  And finally the most silly reason for wanting a baby creeps in, “Chris will love seeing my motherhood in action during the holidays!”…cue a tingle in the uterus.

But then I look around and see all of the chaos required for making these magical memories…

Families line up to ride The Pink Pig

I see long lines extending across the parking lot, forcing small children and large SUVs to compete for what little space is left. I think about standing in the cold for hours and hours, listening to fussy kids who no longer care about riding the Pink Pig and then hearing their exhausted mothers beg for patience while silently cussing the fathers for skipping out on another holiday activity.

The line for the Pink Pig continues across the parking lot

And it immediately becomes clear that my memories in no way match those of my mother’s and I owe the poor woman yet another expression of gratitude for not leaving us in the woods to be raised by wolves, a fate we truly deserved after misbehaving on The Pink Pig and saying horrible things to our own aunts during Christmas brunch…year after year after year.

And as quickly as the urge for a baby arrives it is replaced with more rewarding desires…

Truffels at Godiva Chocolates, Lenox Mall

Which in this case happened to be right next to The Pink Pig ticket booth. And because there wasn’t a mother in the mall brave enough to bring her little beastie into this magnificent truffle shop, eating expensive chocolate in peaceful silence is now my newest, most wonderful, holiday tradition!

Spice (and her happy uterus)

First Pre 2012 New Year’s Resolution to Blog More Blog Entry

East Maroon Bells Pass, Aspen to Crested Butte
2012 Resolution #2, many more hikes with fabulous friends!

Here I sit (in Atlanta) with 22 days left in 2011 realizing that I managed to keep up with every resolution except for one, blogging. Had I kept up with my 2011 blog you’d know what my other resolutions were and you’d be able to congratulate me… but I didn’t and now I’m not sitting here at the end of 2011 feeling the love from my internet family (sigh, poor me).  I don’t understand what the problem is because I love blogging. I love sharing the crazy thoughts and photos from the day and I especially love weighing in on things that are absolutely none of my business!

So I’m going to start again. My first resolution of 2012 will be to blog (sometimes microblog) for the entire year. I admit that this is probably my umpteenth blog and I’ve done nothing to prove that I’ll be able to stick to this one anymore then I’ve stuck to the others (other then turning 40 last July and becoming a completely new woman!) but I’m refusing to feel apologetic. Much like Hollywood starlets who, year after year, return to rehab with a new determination, I’m going to keep starting blogs until one finally gives me the fix I want. Fingers crossed this will be it.

If you’re interested, here are some of my other 2012 Resolutions:

-THE BOOK!!! My writer’s block has gotten ridiculous, I’m a writer who LOVES to write but I won’t do it on a regular basis. So I’m vowing to finish my first two books (rough drafts) by my birthday in July!

-10 lbs by the beginning of March – a little more then I need to lose but this way I’ll feel great long before I reach my goal. Mind games are crucial in my world.

-4 Triathlons in Colorado – I’ve been racing in Atlanta to avoid the cold water but the expense of traveling my gear is getting pretty silly so I need to bite the bullet and race in Colorado.

-Looking respectable at least 4 days a week. I need to stop being lazy and make the effort to for my man. Wearing my garden clothes in public has gotten out of control and even though Boulder takes pride in being voted GQ’s 40th worst dressed city in the nation I know better…and even though he doesn’t say anything I know Chris will appreciate having a respectable lady on his arm. Lipstick and brushed hair, 4 days a week, no exceptions.

-In addition to these I will continue with my yearly promises to first and foremost be grateful for each and every blessing I have and to be a happy wife, to ONLY use reusable grocery sacks, to volunteer, to make the bed each day, to go with my gut when it tells me to delete things from emails before I hit send, to stick to my weekly menus, to not jam my schedule with fluff, to keep negative people at arm’s length, to fix things fast, to only buy quality clothing, and to keep an eye out for the elderly and make sure they know that I care about what they have to say.

I’m sure there are more but I’m starting to overwhelm myself so I’m going to sign off on this, my Pre-2012 New Year’s Resolution to Blog More, Blog Entry.

Happy Holidays!!!
