'07 Dakar Rally, Portimao Portugal

Day 2 of the ’07 Dakar Rally. Early morning in Portimao Portugal. This would be the last time I’d see Chris before the finish line 15 days later…and about 20 lbs lighter (Chris, not me).

It’s that time of year again! As many of you know the Dakar Rally holds a pretty big place in our hearts. Not only is Chris one of less than 20 North Americans to finish the race, he is also one of the last to have crossed the line in the rally’s birthplace, Dakar Senegal. It was a crazy adventure filled with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows – for both of us. And we couldn’t be more proud of the accomplishment. Our hearts are still heavy from losing a dear friend but we couldn’t be more grateful for the lifelong friendships that were formed during that time. Here is a link to Chris’ Dakar Journal.

Congratulations to all of the racers who have made it to the start of this year’s Dakar in Lima Peru, you’ve already won half the battle!

After terrorists threatened to kidnap the North American racers in both ’07 and ’08 the Rally was moved to South America and it has been there ever since.

Regina Brett’s 45 life lessons and 5 to grow on

As published in The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio, Sunday May 28, 2006. “To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I’ve ever written. My odometer rolls over to 50 this week, so here’s an update:”

*Note from Spice: My favorite part of this is the fact that a few years back someone changed Regina Brett’s bio tag to read her age was 90. They then attached a photo of a little old lady smoking a cigar and sent it into the webverse. People have been sending her notes congratulating her on making it to 90 ever since. Snopes.com has labeled her an official Urban Legend. Pretty cool.

Here’s the original list – it’s pretty good. I’ve seen a number of copies with “45 Lessons” in the title but only 32 lessons listed. After reading Regina’s original I discovered the ones pertaining to God are usually removed. They’re pretty important to me so I left them in for you guys to read… or not. Number 1 is my top pick for teens and number 40 is what I’d love to shout from Mount Sanitas for all of Boulder to hear. Number 25 is such an important reminder for all of us and of course number 18 is the one speaking directly to me these days…along with all of the others that don’t pertain to children.

My Frye boots (Campus 14L in 7.5…with the rugged sole). I wish this was one of those blogs where I love something so much that I give away 10 pair to randomly selected readers who leave comments about how much they love my boots too (I enter giveaways on Pioneer Woman at least twice a month) but unfortunately all I can afford to give are free photos taken with my iPhone. But how about this, if I ever make it big I will give an identical pair of these boots to everyone who leaves a comment this month…I’ll even make sure they’re in your size.

iPhone Bliss Continues

Just discovered how easy it is to post photos and blog via the WordPress iPhone app! Seriously, this is pretty cool and the gap between my enthusiasm to blog and actually blogging has finally been bridged #luckyeveryone!
